Crown numbers are increasing across the country. With 50,196 positive tests in 24 hours, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a new high since the start of the pandemic. The seven-day incidence rises to 249.1. Federal states are reacting to the worsening situation. The 2G model has been in effect in Saxony since 8 November. This means that only those who are cured and those who have been vaccinated can go to restaurants, pubs or discos. Berlin is also tightening the rules of the crown. From Monday there will also be 2G in the capital.
Drosten: Lockdown measures cannot be ruled out
Virologist Christian Drosten spoke on the NDR podcast The coronavirus update of a “real emergency situation”. He believes that new restrictions on contacts are inevitable. “We have to do something now,” said the head of virology at the Berlin Charité. “So now we probably need to re-check infection activity through contact measures – not likely, but definitely.” A “very tiring” Corona winter is expected “with new, let’s say: extinguishing measures”.
Defeat the corona pandemic with vaccinations
If the number of vaccinations does not continue to increase, another 100,000 deaths per crown can be expected. This is a “conservative estimate,” Drosten warned. According to Drosten, it is not enough to reduce the crown numbers sufficiently with the 3G rule. Anyone who is not vaccinated and goes to an event or to work with a negative test could become infected there because vaccinated people can also transmit the virus. To defeat the pandemic in the long term, “the ideal goal is to triple the fully vaccinated population”.
