Losing weight without a strict diet. In diabetes studies, antidiabetic agents such as metformin and semaglutide were able to achieve strong, long-term weight loss. However, the control groups, who only changed their diets, usually lost weight faster. Due to the numerous side effects and consequent harms, such drugs can only be administered in consultation and under strict supervision by a physician. The most common side effects include gastrointestinal problems such as nausea and abdominal pain.

The thyroid hormone L-thyroxine

This thyroid hormone is used to treat an underactive thyroid. Since its mode of action increases metabolism in the body, the preparation can cause weight loss and help with weight loss. But beware: the active ingredient of the drug should not be underestimated: L-thyroxine, on the other hand, represents a strong intervention on a person’s hormonal balance and must therefore be strictly monitored by a doctor. If people with a healthy thyroid gland abuse L-thyroxine, the thyroid gland can become overactive, resulting in severe damage. L-thyroxine can also interrupt heart activity and trigger muscle cramps and muscle weakness.

Conclusion: are diet pills dangerous?

The intake of any medication should always be closely monitored by a doctor. The drugs presented here are also mostly drugs that have actually been developed to combat certain diseases such as hypothyroidism or diabetes and can sometimes be associated with severe side effects and long-term damage. It is therefore imperative to refrain from using such “slimming tablets” solely for weight loss. Otherwise it can cause harm to the body. Fortunately, most of these preparations require a prescription in Germany and should therefore only be used when medically necessary and not for weight loss. The only way to lose weight without side effects or unhealthy substances is therefore still a long-term diet change coupled with exercise.
