Tap water saves plastic and protects the environment

What do the numbers 2, 47 and 17.4 have in common when it comes to water

According to a German Environmental Aid survey, every hour in Germany alone 2 million single-use plastic bottles drunk dry. This is per day 47 million bottles and calculated for a year the sum of approximately 17.4 billion bottles from plastic. Each German consumes around 210 single-use plastic bottles per year, which means that this form of beverage packaging has an overall market share of 52.2%.

When you consider that around 70 percent of single-use bottles produced in Germany are made from new material, it becomes clear how bad this is for the climate and the environment. It therefore makes sense to campaign for greater sustainability in your environment. This can be achieved by drinking less water from supermarket plastic bottles and more water from the tap at home. Jörn Lohmann, managing director of HYTECON Development and Production GmbH, a company specializing in water treatment, says about drinking water: “Anyone who drinks tap water avoids the production and transport of mineral water bottles and therefore it lightens the load on the environment and protects the climate “.

UVC LED technology – Efficient water treatment in your four walls

Regional water suppliers are already doing what they can to clean up household water so that it can be drunk straight from the tap without hesitation. However, particularly outdated piping and piping in buildings ensure, even if unintentionally, that heavy metals, pollutants or chemicals enter groundwater. Hardly biodegradable substances require special treatment to filter them out of drinking water.

A completely new technology is the UVC LEDs in combination with the already known activated carbon filter. The Herford company HYTECON, for example, has developed a device that is easy to install and use, which combines both methods and thus removes 99.99% of all impurities from the water. The activated carbon filter is responsible for the smallest parts such as drug residues, heavy metals or other impurities, while the UVC LEDs with patented Dynamic Twist technology are available for bacteria, viruses and other microscopic germs and take care of the disinfection.

What is not removed from the water with this type of water treatment are important minerals and trace elements that the body needs. They remain in the drinking water and can be absorbed with water.

Such a water conditioner can be installed directly in front of the tap in a few simple steps, so that users can not only enjoy absolutely clean drinking water, but also get water that tastes good and smells good. . The advantage of the placement is that the contamination, which occurs only in the last few meters of the old pipes due to the particles separating from the pipe material, is reliably removed from the water treatment device.

An important aspect of drinking water is health. The better the drinking water treatment, the lower the risk of absorbing harmful substances which can then accumulate in the body and, in the worst case, cause disease or ailments. Heavy metals, in particular, can cause health problems.

Drinking tap water protects resources and the environment and saves money

Although mineral water is generally cheap, the constant purchase of water puts a strain on household wallets. It has been shown that treating the water in your kitchen and using the drinking water obtained in this way is about 260 times cheaper per liter than buying drinking water in disposable plastic bottles.

In consideration of the quantities of disposable plastic bottles mentioned in the opening, it becomes clear that the use of drinking water from the tap leads to a significant reduction in the number of plastic bottles, which is a contribution to the protection of resources and the environment. . However, if fewer bottles are to be produced and filled, they do not need to be transported to the point of sale. Both result in a reduction in CO₂ emissions, which means that households contribute to climate protection.
